Duffy’s Diet Coke Advert Raises Safety Concerns
I bet Duffy thought getting on a bike, cycling down a street, whilst singing to one of her own songs was the easiest money she would ever make when she agreed to make that cringe -worthy Diet Coke TV advert.
However, it seems that the ad campaign is now surrounded in controversy.
Not simply because the ad is so embarrassingly bad but is in fact because Duffy cycles down the street without wearing a safety helmet and abandoning all health and safety guidelines for cyclists.
Some viewers are actually so concerned about Duffy‘s safety that they have taken the time to call the Advertising Standards Authority and put in a complaint. Well in total – 22 people felt they needed to do this.
Viewers felt that the ad gives the wrong message to children about safety when using their bikes and children watching it might see it as uncool to wear a safety helmet.
But the Advertising Standards have taken Coca-cola’s side on this one and said that the ad is both “unreal and fantastical” and that the times that it is scheduled to appear on TV were not during prime time children’s TV hours.
I’m not sure what to make of this one – on one hand I see the complaints are justified and valid , but come-on….it’s a TV ad not to be taken seriously! I think Advertising Standards certainly made the right call on this one.
