It seems that Steve Martin is actually charting with his album of banjo songs – the actor slash comedian entered the US pop charts for the first time since 1981 with his recording that shows off his pretty incredible skills on the banjo.

But don’t get too excited – it’s not like middle schoolers across the nation have suddenly become infatuated with grassroots-infused albums feature mad banjo skills.

The album, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo debuted at No. 106 on the Billboard charts after Martin and crew made an appearance on the American Idol finale.

And – let’s face it – this wouldn’t even be news if we weren’t talking about someone who was already famous outside of the music industry.

Martin performed the track “Pretty Flowers” on the television talent contest, with former contestants Megan Joy and Michael Sarver taking turns with the song’s vocals.

The comedian previously appeared on the Billboard music charts with three separate comedic albums released between 1977 and 1979, and in 1981 he reappeared on the charts with his first album to feature banjo tunes, The Steve Martin Brothers.

When host Ryan Seacrest asked Martin who he thought would win this season of Idol, Martin replied, “I know it’s a long shot, but I hope I do.”
