Glastonbury Lineup Announced
The world’s largest green field festival of arts and music will feature Neil Young, Blur, and Bruce Springsteen this year.
There is a notable lack of hip-hop stars in the headlining efforts; this year the festival seems to be leaning on its guitar-based roots.
Last year Jay-Z headlined at Glastonbury, but ticket sales were rather pathetic – though Jay-Z’s performance was generally praised, many did not appreciated that the festival had deviated from its original musical roots.
Glastonbury hasn’t abandoned the hip-hop community completely, however, as the festival is immense enough to offer something for everyone.
Q-Tip, Roots Manuva and Black Eyed Peas will be playing smaller stages at the three-day event.
The Guardian quoted organizer Emily Eavis as saying, “We know that there will be objections to whatever we do but if last year taught us anything, it was that we have to follow our gut instinct. Risks pay off, and featuring Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen in one weekend was a choice… and we had to take it.”
There will be one big hip-hop name at the event: Dizzee Rascal, who finds himself at the top of the UK charts this week. The rapper has been quite a presence at other UK festivals this year.
There is some speculation that Pete Doherty, who is scheduled to perform on one of the larger stages, will be joined by his former chums who made up the Libertines.
Doherty performed with two of the band’s members earlier this month for the first time since the band split up in 2004.
The complete lineup for the event is located at the festival’s official website, www.glastonburyfestials.co.uk.
