Beyonce’s Obsessed Makes $28.5M
Apparently Beyoncé Knowles is not only a musical attraction, but an established box office commodity as well – her new movie, ‘Obsessed‘, debuted over the weekend as the top movie, raking in $28.5 million in ticket sales.
The movie stars Knowles and Idris Elba as a couple who face a rough patch when psychotic temp Ali Larter begins stalking Elba’s character.
The fact that this movie is moving so many tickets is a good sign, at least for the Hollywood machine, whose yearly revenues are actually up 23.5 percent from last year at this time, with a total of $112 million.
Hollywood is only poised to make more money, as the summer movie season is nearly upon us.
Beginning this Friday, the season kicks off with the X-Men spinoff, ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine‘.
I’m not at all dying to see it, but I imagine there are plenty who are.
Even if a higher ticket price is factored into the equation, movie ticket sales are still up 15.7%.
President of Media By Numbers, Paul Dergarabedian, informed the Associated Press, “We have never been in this strong a position heading into the summer season, ever.”
I guess the worse the economy gets, the more money movies will make.
Seems like the business to get into – as long as you’re not trying to be an actor.
