Another day, another rapper in court: stemming from an incident between Kanye West and a swarm of paparazzi at LAX airport September 11, 2008, West has been charged with battery, theft and vandalism.

The charges were brought against West on Wednesday, and according to the L.A. District Attorney’s Office,

West is accused of smashing camera equipment during the incident. If the outspoken rapper is convicted of all the misdemeanors he could end up serving a maximum sentence of two and a half years in prison.

West had been arrested on the day of the incident and released later the same day. He is scheduled to appear back in court on April 14.

The DA passed on more serious felony charges and handed the case over to the L.A. City Attorney to take care of the misdemeanor crimes. A spokesman for the City Attorney reported that the charges brought against West have to do with the incident in which the rapper allegedly snatched a camera away from its user and smashed it on the ground.

Don Crawley, Kanye’s manager, was also charged on Wednesday with two counts on each charge of grand theft and battery for his involvement in the fray. Crawley could be thrown in jail for up to five years if convicted.

In the words of Kanye himself, yoooo, L.A. City Attorney, why won’t you let him be great!!!

Wishing prison on anyone is pretty harsh but boy I’d love to see this one. Of course, it’ll never happen.
