Shakira, Pharrell, Wyclef in the Studio
For Shakira’s upcoming album, she’s already collaborated with both Pharrell Williams and Wyclef Jean. No release date has been set by Epic, but the album is supposed to come out later this year. Billboard also reported that “a source” has informed them Shakira also recorded a duet with Puerto Rican reggaetón alternativos Calle 13 (which I am especially curious to hear), and is considering getting Algerian artist Khaled in the studio for her album.
Wyclef has been in Shakira’s studio before, with the result being 2006’s #1 hit “Hips Don’t Lie.” The track sold 2.14 million downloads in the U.S. alone, so it’s easy to see why she’d want to work with him again – you don’t mess with a winning combination.
This will be Shakira’s last Sony album before she embarks on her new deal with Live Nation. She hasn’t released an album since the two volume, separate discs of Fijación Oral and Oral Fixation were released in 2005. (The total number for both albums’ sales is 2.7 million units.)
For the most part, Shakira has tucked herself away from the spotlight these past few years. On January 18, the Colombian native will be among the performers at Lincoln Memorial for the part of the Obama inauguration chaos in D.C. This particular event will be broadcast on HBO.
