Lily Allen and Ladyhawke descend on “Womanizer”
As if we hadn’t heard the song enough, Britney Spears’ first #1 since “…Baby One More Time” has so far been covered by Brits Lily Allen (the cheekily adorable star who was launched by her own MySpace) and Ladyhawke (singer who plays all her own instruments in-studio, and is so-hot-right-now).
Sources across the Internet landscape seem to agree that Allen’s version of “Womanizer” is the better one – probably based on her past ironies, and her lack of seriousness. Lily Allen producer Mark Ronson premiered her version of the track on the East Village Radio show Authentic Shit this past Friday.
Ladyhawke fans hope her cover of “Womanizer” will prompt in interest in her own songs; her version stems from a Radio 1 Live Lounge session.
Britney seems to be in Japan at the moment, and would probably be half-oblivious to this sort of thing anyway. (In addition to not being able to comment without a chaperone present.)
In any case – if Lily Allen and Ladyhawke couldn’t resist the robotics of this song, the odds that anyone else can are drastically lowered. It won’t be going away anytime soon.
If you are quick you can catch the Lil Allen version here and the Ladyhawke version here.
