Barry Manilow: Because It’s Christmas

The following album review was not created by Music Review Zone. This is a guest post by Christina over at God, History and You.

Falling into the category of ‘easy listenin’, this collection of Christmas songs, though older tracks, offers his fans old and new a satisfying Manilow experience. Barry combines classic Christmas with some unexpected touches that I find delightful.

In a very smooth, teasing duet with K.T.Oslin, performing Baby, It’s Cold Outside, Barry charms.  You’ll find yourself grinning!  In a second duet, Barry teams up with Expose’ to give us a version of Jingle Bells reminiscent of a World War II era USO show, complete with beebop background vocals.

I Guess There Ain’t No Santa Claus has the feel of a smoky, late-night jazz club.  Manilow’s versatility, showcased in these three songs, is partnered with his mellow delivery of such holiday favourite as ’The Christmas Song’, ’White Christmas’ and others.

Not for someone wanting rousing, rollicking songs of the season, but if you’re spending an evening alone with your main squeeze, or just an evening alone, recovering from hectic holiday activities, Because It’s Christmas may just be the album for you.

My Favourite:

  1. Jingle Bells (w/ Expose’)
  2. Baby, It’s Cold Outside (w/ KT. Oslin)
  3. I Guess There Ain’t No Santa Claus
