REM: All Hail The Geeks, For I Is Geekan!
Forget Girl power…its now Geek Power!. REM have revealed they are happy being labelled as geeks and like to attribute their musical successes partily to their geek status.
According to reports, Michael Stipe lead singer with REM claims being “an imperfect, weird and geeky outfit” is one of the bands strongest points.
The band, currently promoting their new album “Accelerate” on the European leg of their world tour have claimed they accept their geek reputation and as much as they would like to make themselves appear “supercool”, its just never going to happen.
In fact Stipe himself reports that he is quite jealous of his fellow bandmates Peter Buck and Mike Mills, who are “smarter and better read”, making them undoubtably nerdier!
A band with 28 years in the business, Stipe also revealed his unending admiration for his two fellow bandmates – obviously REM have geek power working for them. Maybe some of the wannabe younger, cooler, more hip bands should learn a bit or two about geek power…
I hear-by annoint thee, Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills, honorary members of the Geekans. Your certificates have been folded 8 times, stuffed in a pigeons leg brace and are now airing their way to you.
The third single from the bands Accelerate record, ‘Man-Sized Wreath’, is set for release August 25th.
