Jessica Simpson Just Doesn’t Get The Honky Tonk
“She wasn’t good enough.”
“I don’t hear the twang.”
“I just don’t hear the country in her.”
All heart warming things to hear about yourself on the very day you are trying to re-invent.
Jessica Simpson was booed all evening while on stage for her first music concert in the country genre on Saturday night.
Taking to the stage, at 8:30pm, like she was still filming on the set of Dukes of Hazzard (wearing what could have been hot pants, cowboy boots and a white shirt) the singer sang some material from her soon-to-be-released album ‘Do You Know?” – which is set to hit the shelves on September 9th.
The crowd didn’t seem to impressed by the material or the singing, believing it to be POP marketed at the country genre.
The title track of her new album was written by Dolly Parton – who cameos as a backing singer on the song.
Jessica had this to say of the album :
“I’m not what everybody thinks that I am. Believe it or not, I’m a simple country girl … and this album will hopefully give people a sense of who Jessica is again.”
It has been said that the singers attempt to cross over into country has been received as irritating by critics. I find this more of a personal attack than a representation of the music. If it is bad country then it will not sell – but one cannot blame the woman for attempting to break into one of the biggest music crowds in the States.

Though I haven’t actually heard Jessica’s singing of these songs, I appreciate reading a review that reports negative responses and reactions honestly, yet still with some compassion.
