Radiohead Hugs iTunes
June 4th, 2008 by Music Review Zone
Money always buckles those with morals and the guys from Radiohead are no different. After trialing their recent album ‘In Rainbows’ through the Apple iTunes store the band have come to realise just how profitable the service can be. This has led them to cast away all the morals that they stood for before and allow the rest of their back-catalog to be sold within the online music store as well.
Previously the band held back their music from iTunes and other stores of the same ilk because they held strong views that their music was created only to be heard in album format. That means that they didn’t want their songs to be bought individually.
As much as I wish the band held their morals in higher regard, I can see how the dark side lured them to this decision. It’s just … “business”. Money talks or … makes people sell out.
According to NME, the only BIG artists left who hold their principles in high esteem are The Beatles and Garth Brooks. They are yet to open their music catalogs to iTunes. Although, with more and more of The Beatles dying off - it is only a matter of time before descendant greed kicks in - so watch this space for The Beatles and Garth Brooks’ music opening up to the masses.
