Stage Diving Just Ain’t What It Used To Be…
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008The scene is set. You can feel the vibe. The crowd are loving you and you are loving them. You want to take the excitement up a notch. You want to have your ecstatic followers hold you above their heads like a well won trophy. So what do you do? Well, you do what every good entertainer does….. you give them what they want.
The keyboard player for Indie band British Sea Power, Phil Sumner, made a dramatic leap from the top of the PA system, 3-4metres high, gliding out for all but a couple of feet, awaiting the caressing paws of the adoring. Trouble was, the entertainer in him misjudged what the crowd wanted. They all scattered out of the way of his flailing carcass and he fell head first to the ground. Ouch!
Lying unconscious for over 3 minutes while shocked fans gawked on, the musician spilled blood over the un-comforting floor. With a broken molar, some stitches and a lot of lost pride, dignity and love for his fellow floor mates he did what everyone else would do in his situation: He got up on stage, continued playing and pretended that nothing happened while secretly wishing Carrie would help him exact his revenge.
She must have been busy that night. Sorry Phil.
