Mystery Jets Trash Stage At Leeds Festival
Monday, August 25th, 2008
The Mystery Jets were none too happy when they were forced to cut their set short at the Leeds festival this weekend due to tardiness.
The band who took centre place on the Radio 1/NME stage, were so frustrated, guitarist William Rees smashed up his microphone stand in protest.
The four-piece band from Eel Pie Island, Twickenham, arrived on stage twenty minutes late, meaning they were only allowed to play a fraction of their set-list.
The band aired their anger to the crowds, when festival organisers informed them that they had a mere 8 minutes to play. “That’s pretty fucking outrageous,” Rees said as he announced to the waiting fans:
“Why doesn’t the person who organises Leeds festival come down here now and we’ll have a word.”
Needless to say that didn’t go down too well with organisers and security arrived promptly on stage. The band were allowed to play a high tempo version of ‘Two Doors Down’ before being escorted off stage. Fans booed and threw items on the stage in protest of the security and in support of the band.
Mystery Jets have had to cancel a few other performances this year, to allow drummer Blaine Harrison time to get treatment for Spina Bifida.
