Song for a Winter’s Night

Somehow Christmas-time has rolled around again, and here we are, at almost the last minute, wondering ‘Where did the time go? I’m not ready yet!’ Well, “Song for a Winter’s Night” may be just what the Doctor ordered to soothe and relax the anxious holiday shopper – who just might be YOU !
This collection of Christmas songs includes a touch of the unusual, and moves at a slow and easy tempo much of the time. But fear not, you still find yourself tapping a foot, head bobbing, and wantin’ to bust a move! The Raveonettes ease your spirit with ‘The Christmas Song’ (not the “Chestnuts roasting…etc. version, btw. I recommend a couple doses of this song daily…!) Peter Yorn, in ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ gently yet intensely urges us to remember all are not as fortunate as we who live in the United States of America, and might take your mind off of some of your holiday hassles. A breathy version of ’River’, sung by Rachael Yamagata and coupled with clear, well-timed piano, wants to take us away, and just might, for 4 minutes or so! Beyonce’ and Alicia Keys also offer stunning, if a bit drawn out, performances of classic Christmas.
If classic is your favorite cup of tea, you will totally groove with Carly Simon’s crooning rendition of ‘Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!’ Picking up the pace a bit, in a rousing ‘Sleigh Ride’ finale, leaves you smiling and happy.
Though not my very favorite Christmas album, every holiday season it is one of the first I pull out of storage, and play repeatedly.
