Oasis Gig Forces Primary School To Close

OasisOasis have come under fire from a group of angry parents after a primary school was forced to close to accommodate one of their gigs.

As over 55,000 fans were expected to attend the gig, Lothian and Borders police were compelled to close Roseburn Primary School in Edinburgh before the concert started at 2pm.

The gig took place yesterday at Murrayfield Stadium as part of Oasis‘s UK tour.

Parents were outraged as not only were the children attending the school missing out on an afternoons education, but it raised problems with working parents having to find childcare at short notice.

One concerned parent, Angela McGregor said, “It’s ridiculous that the school had to close early because of the Oasis concert. My son lost half a day’s education.”

The City Council tried to justify the action of closing the school for the afternoon saying that they had based their decision on “past experiences” and that the closure was in the children’s best interests due to the volume of crowds expected and that alcohol would be sold in the area.

Meanwhile Oasis have two dates left on their summer UK tour:

  • Dublin Slane Castle (June 20th)
  • London Wembley Stadium (July 11th, 12th)
