The XX to Release Debut Album
The XX, have revealed that their debut album will be called…..’XX‘.
The XX are certainly no strangers to each other. Singer Romy Madley Croft and bassist Oliver Sim, first met at nursery and were later joined by Baria Qureshi on guitar and Jamie Smith on beats/production as they studied GCSE music at the same school.
The four-piece band all hailing from London will release their debut album on August 17th.
The bands debut single ‘Crystalised‘ was released back in April 2009
Lead singer Romy discussed the recording of the album at Indie Label XL’s offices, “In the actual offices where people work, it was like a garage when we first went there, like a mattress on the wall – it was really derelict and then they refurbished it and we were the first band in there.”
The single ‘Basic Space’ will be released first on August 3rd to give fans a little taster of what is to come, followed later by the complete album.
The bands multi-instrumentalist Jamie Smith also produced the album.
Speaking to the BBC, Smith discussed the bands decision to produce the album themselves, “We worked with a lot of producers before but it ended up sounding more like them than us, eventually just decided to do it myself.”
The tracklisting for the 11-track-record is as follows:
