O.A.R. Stages Twitter Songwriting Contest
It’s the age of Twitter (at least until there is a new development in social networking): O.A.R. frontman Marc Roberge has decided that he no longer is opposed to Twitter, and will launch the first songwriting contest through the site. The contest of Tweets will lead to a new song to be released on iTunes in October.
Starting today, fans can submit their contributions, though only 140 characters at a time, through O.A.R.’s page: twitter.com/ofarevolution. From those submitted, the band will select three verses, a chorus, and a bridge to be combined into a song. Roberge has said that he would prefer to select the different parts of the song from five different Tweeters. Once the song is constructed, the lyrics will be posted and another contest will be held to name the song.
Proceeds made by this single will be donated to the band’s Heard the World Fund – a charity that helps under-funded educational and youth-oriented programs.
Roberge plans on filming the songwriting process, so that fans can see what went into the song once the lyrics have been selected:
“What I wanted to do is keep it as close to realistic as possible. When we get the lyrics and the title together, then we’ll really show where we cut drums or write the hooks, or whatever we’re going we’ll be filming it and putting it up there. So everyday there will be a new update on what we did with this song and how close are we to recording it.”
I don’t know about you but this sounds like fun. I think I’ll throw in a few lyrical masterpieces to help out!
Are you in?
What type of song would you write?
