Susan Boyle Hospitalized after BGT Finale
Though Susan Boyle appeared relatively gracious when she lost to dance troupe Diversity on Saturday night’s finale of Britain’s Got Talent, she apparently suffered from some extreme emotional distress backstage, and was “voluntarily” hospitalized.
The internet singing sensation was whisked away to a private clinic via ambulance after the show.
The 48-year-old was the favorite to win before the show’s finale episode began, but she came in second place after Diversity stunned the crowd with their slick (and original) choreography.
Susan Boyle’s audition on the television talent show stunned not only the judges and the gathered audience, but had a feel-good effect on the rest of the world, who has viewed the footage on YouTube almost 200 million times now – making her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” the fifth most-watched video in the site’s history.
The Sun says that Boyle suffered an “emotional breakdown” at her hotel in London on Sunday, and a police spokesman confirmed that officers had been called there, “to doctors attending a woman under the mental health act.”
The spokesman said: “She was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance.”
All along the show’s producers had shown concern about Boyle’s ability to withstand the enormous pressure she was under in full view of the public eye.

The race for the prize on BGT was a close won: Diversity won with 24.9% of the vote, beating out Susan Boyle’s 20.2%.
