Sue Jackson all you want, the O2 is still on
Billboard reports that the O2 shows are still a go, with rehearsals already in their fourth week and an estimated $85 million from ticket sales sitting pretty in Jackson’s bank account.
The shows are set to begin July 8, and the date marks the first time Jackson has given a concert in twelve years.
AEG Live footed the production cost of $20 million, and reports that the show has been expanded from ninety minutes to more than two hours long.
AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips told Billboard this was because the singer has “so many must-do songs in his repertoire”.
Production officials are mum as to the details of the affair, but that $20 million production fee speaks volumes – the expectation levels are high for these performances; hopefully Jackson can deliver.
Just in case, AEG Live has covered its bases with an extensive insurance policy – they’re not going to lose the money they put up for production costs, and who could blame them for insuring everything: look who they are in business with.
Despite recent rumors to the contrary, Phillips informed Billboard that Jackson passed a physical with “flying colors.”
“Michael’s in incredible physical shape, he’s got tremendous stamina, he’s been working out aerobically preparing for this, and he is totally engaged,” Phillips told them.
“He sounds like Michael Jackson. He is laser-focused on making this the greatest entertainment event that fans have ever seen.”
Seems a little strange as just a few weeks ago reports were circulating that Jackson was warned by doctors that his health was in serious jeopardy and he needed to “beef up” as we reported in our article, ‘Michael Jackson Told To Gain Weight Before Summer Tour’.
I guess fans will have to wait and see which of the more recent reports are true.
