St. Lucia thanks Winehouse for at least trying
Though Amy Winehouse cut her comeback performance in St. Lucia short because of (she says) the heavy rain, the island’s top tourism official commended the troubled singer for actually making an effort, because she at least brought media attention to the event.
Any publicity is good publicity, right?
Apparently the St. Lucia Jazz Festival received an unprecedented amount of attention thanks to the singer selecting it as the place to make her comeback – or rather, her first performance since an extended vacation on the island and after some stints in courtrooms.
According to the AP, the island’s minister of tourism Allen Chastanet said, “This has never received the kind of pre-attention that it achieved this year and all of it is attributable to Amy.”
Of course no one was happy when Amy left the stage early (with the exception, perhaps, of the singer herself).
Chasatanet said he would have liked to have seen her sing a few more songs, but he accepts that she is an artist and is going to do whatever she wants to do.
He hopes she will get to a level in life where she can do “better,” and would’ve liked to have seen a more quality performance from her at the festival – but hey, what are you going to do.
