Manager thought it would be great for Radiohead to breakup
Radiohead manager, Brian Message spoke at the Music Mangers Forum in Dublin recently and actually admitted that he thought it would be brilliant if Radiohead split up, and actually advised them to do so during their work on the 2007 album ‘In Rainbows’.
He attempted to defend himself: “Radiohead are a once-in-a-generation act. But you have to be honest if it’s not working.”
Thank god, however, that the Oxford band chose to ignore the manager’s words of wisdom.
During the forum, he also explained that it was not actually the band’s idea to use the pay-what-you-like program to sell ‘In Rainbows‘, according to The Guardian.
“Two of my partners in the management company came up with the idea of pay-what-you-like,” said the manager. “Both the band and us were really excited about doing something brave and a bit wacky… we realized that by using the internet for the delivery of the album, we could reach 173 countries and it would cost us less than three cents a copy for distribution.”
Message moved on to the topic of file-sharing, which he says Radiohead think should not be illegal.
He empahasized, “We believe file-sharing by peer-to-peer should be legalized. The sharing of music where it is not for profit is a great thing for culture and music.”
Who couldn’t love Radiohead? Just Miley Cyrus.
