Glastonbury Festival – Monitoring Swine-Flu Situation
Glastonbury Festival organisers have revealed how they are keeping a watchful eye on the recent Swine-Flu outbreak in the lead up to the summer festival.
The World Health Organisation who are avidly monitoring the outbreak, have yet to confirm the situation as a Level 6 pandemic of the illness, but have confirmed the news that it can and has already been moving from human to human in the UK.
The worst news possible for any festival organiser, expected to cram thousands of music worshipers into the same, relatively compact area.
Not to mention the fact that several international performers will be unable or unwilling to travel to the UK and expose themselves to unnecessary risk of infection.
Glastonbury organisers did however speak out and say that at the minute they had no plans in place to scale down or cancel the festival if a pandemic is declared.
That’s great – but if the artists aren’t willing to travel to perform – there would be no festival anyway!
Michael Jackson has already cancelled a UK performance due to the outbreak.
At a worst case scenario, the UK could end up with a situation similar to that of Mexico where the outbreak first started.
The country has had to cancel several music gigs and is on a virtual ‘shut-down’ for the next 5 days.
Tickets for this years Glastonbury are already sold-out with big name performers headlining.
This summers Glastonbury Festival will take place from Wednesday 24th to Sunday 28th June 2009.
