Back on American Idol to debut new material is Chris Daughtry, who is no stranger to the show.

The ex-Idol contestant announced today that he and his band, ‘Daughtry’, will be back on the show next week on May 6 to perform the band’s new single, “No Surprise.”

Next week will be Rock Week for the reality television contest American Idol.

Also slated to perform for the theme of the week are No Doubt, who recently reformed for a reunion tour.

Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist and mortal enemy of Axl Rose, Slash, will be featured on the show as a mentor for the contestants.

Standing by to see which fan forums Axl shows up on to file his complaints on the matter.

In addition to the Idol contestant the band is named after, its members include Josh Paul, Joey Barnes, Brian Craddock and Josh Steely.

The band is currently recording the follow up to a self-titled debut which moved 4,422,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScand and Billboard.com.

The album – which currently lacks a title – will be released July 14 from 19 Recordings/RCA.
