Brandon Flowers Feels Contained by Nirvana, Led Zeppelin
Probably Brandon Flowers and crew just like to see how many current items will pop up under a Google News search of their names – I mean, they don’t really think that they are better than Led Zeppelin and Nirvana.
Right??
According to Spin, even if The Killers are popular in the US, they are actually “mega stars” in Europe.
And of course, the band’s frontman, Brandon Flowers, has a theory on just why that is, and he told NME:
“With this last album [Day and Age] there’s been a noticeable shift but we’re still nowhere near where we are in Europe. [In America] people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands – nobody else is allowed [to grow]. It’s not just us; there are a lot of great bands that have been held down or confined by the influence of these people that we’ve put up on pedestals.”
He continued: “I just want to knock them all off!”
But apparently Flowers is aware that sometimes when he opens his mouth, people don’t take too kindly to what he blurts out.
“People don’t like that attitude,” he said of himself. “It’s almost like they don’t believe that it’s possible that anybody else can be the real deal. It doesn’t matter how many great songs we write or how many great shows we play. But we’re slowly chipping away at it.”
Brandon Flowers needs a new hobby – perhaps he and Kanye West should start a new blog about being a ‘doper‘ person by not telling everyone how dope you are.

Brandon should Shut the fuck up!! NIRVANA and Led Zeppelin are legends he has got no right to comment like this..being ambitious is not bad but not at the expense of disrespecting someone..All I can say Grow up!! and let ur music speak for itself..
Perhaps the gods of bespackled blazers transcended time and space–as the powers-that-be oft do–and changed the laws of logic. Otherwise, I can’t get a handle on how a band from the early 90s managed to slime their grungy little asses into the ranks among artists like Zeppelin. I mean, Zep certainly had their cloudy pedestal in 1990. How did Nirvana trick music fans into accepting them? I considered spectacular music, inherent hipness, after-the-fact sheik (as suicides often facilitate), expert timing, discrete, passionate fanbase, and undeniable sincerity–you know, all of the things that usually constitute an epic band–but soon threw these distinct possibilities out the window out of respect for the higher-level reasoning with which Mr. Flowers MUST operate. It was too obvious.
So now I’m interested, and I demand a follow-up. I must know why the lead-rambler (his labored squeakings hardly qualify as singing) of a passionless, lackadaisical hack-parade thinks his uninspired hogwash deserves even shared sentence space with Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, The Beatles, ad infinitum. It can’t be easy as it seems. He must be a supergenius.
And as far as European success goes, I hear The Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams are planning a tour.
First of all, by reading little excerpts from the actual interview you are NOT getting the whole story. The author has only posted the parts of the interview that make the exact people Flowers is talking about angry. That would be the first 2 individuals that responded to this article. The author was obviously looking for this type of response.
Secondly, what’s so great about those bands anyway?? The fact that the lead singers are dead??? Apparently the only way to get put on a pedestal is to kill yourself with drugs or blow your brains out!
The Killers are a talented band, Flowers’ lyrics are genius. Take the time, have a listen. And don’t give me that crap about the lyrics to “Human” we are all sick of hearing about it. He wrote that song that way for a reason.
As far as European success goes, if those are they only British bands you know of then your musical taste and knowledge is so limited that you shouldn’t even be commenting here. Muse, Pet Shop Boys, Coldplay, Chemical Brothers, Radiohead, Queen, David fucking Bowie to name a few.
Get your head outta your ass, he has ambitions. Nothing wrong with that. I admire that he has the balls to say so.
I really don’t understand why everyone is so damn pissy about Brandon’s comments. So he wants to do better than past bands, so what?! And why do people care that he has an ego, so far I would say he has earned it!!
Please shut the fuck up about his comments being disrespectful, they WEREN’T!!!!!!!!!!!
