Ruth Lorenzo Earns EMI Contract
Fresh on the heels of an article from the Times Online that discusses the fate of X Factor runners-up everywhere, singer Ruth Lorenzo has reportedly signed a six figure record deal with a company involved in competition with Simon Cowell’s label, Syco Entertainment (which is part of Sony BMG).
Many entertainment gossip sites are calling this a snub of Simon on the part of Lorenzo, but it seems more likely that the singer simply was offered a deal from EMI which was too good to refuse.
Simon may have been surprised to learn that his protégé wasn’t going to be working directly with him in the near future.
Lorenzo was one of Simon’s favorites from this past season of the reality talent television show X Factor.
Ruth Lorenzo revealed the big news while attending a party for the opening of famous chef Jean-Christophe Novelli’s latest restaurant; her contract with EMI is said to be worth £1 million.
The Sun quoted an unnamed source on the matter: “Ruth was telling everyone Simon was devastated she had signed elsewhere. Ruth admitted Simon has given her lots of advice and also that he’d given her a lot of confidence with her singing and her career. But the EMI deal was just too good for her to turn down.”
EMI of course has big plans for Ruth, and that includes hoping that the singer – who is certainly talented in her own right – can do just as well on the sales charts as X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.
The label is planning on escorting Lorenzo to America, in order for her to have the opportunity to work with rock legends Steven Tyler, Slash, and Santana.
According to the Sun’s source, “EMI thinks she’s a bit different to the norm with her Spanish roots and her rock credentials.”
