Lil Wayne Gun Hearing Re-Opened
Though Justice Charles Solomon had already ruled (back in Februrary) that the 9mm gun found on Lil Wayne’s tour bus could be used as evidence against the rapper at his illegal weapon possession trial in NYC, the judge reopened the hearing after the Assistant DA reported a previously unseen police report.
In the report, which Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon says she just learned about, conversations between Lil Wayne and an officer’s conversations are detailed from the moment the two met until his subsequent arrest.
According to Lil Wayne’s defense lawyer Stacy Richman, the newly submitted police report will help make some witnesses’ testimony clearer.
The new hearing will take place May 20.
Our boy Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. was arrested back in July of ’07 in New York City, after a performance at Beacon Theatre alongside Ja Rule.
He of course has pled not guilty to illegal possession of a gun, and is currently roaming the streets free on $70,000 bail. If convicted, Lil Wayne could find himself in prison for at least 3.5 years.
The officer from the scene, Diane Hornung, originally boarded the rapper’s tour bus because she smelled marijuana and witnessed smoke wafting from the door. When she went into the bus’ bedroom, Lil Wayne was sitting in his underwear, attempting to hide a bag.
Lil Wayne got up to get dressed, and the officer looked in the bag, and discovered the 9mm gun in question.
Lil Wayne’s defense argued that the officer falsely claimed to smell marijuana in order to board the bus. The officer admitted (during testimony at the first hearing) that she did not actually see anyone smoking weed on the bus.
