George Harrison Now a Hollywood Blvd Star
The forgotten Beatle got his own Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame on Tuesday, and hundreds turned up to witness the sidewalk square’s unveiling – including never-forgotten Beatle Paul McCartney and musician Tom Petty. McCartney stood with Harrison’s widow Olivia and the couple’s son Dhani for the ceremony which unveiled the star in front of the Capitol Records Building (though who knows how long that building will outlast the fall of the music industry).
Paul McCartney was sure to thank the crowd for showing up – maybe he figured they were there to see him just as much as they were there to pay tribute to Harrison (and, okay, they probably were). Hundreds of screaming fans showed up on Hollywood Boulevard, wearing Beatles paraphernalia and waving signs.
Ringo Starr was not present for the unveiling of the sidewalk square, but he was quoted by a friend as complaining, “What about mine?” The friend, Monty Python’s Eric Idle, responded that they don’t give drummers stars.
Only John Lennon and George Harrison have their own stars, though the Beatles share one together as a foursome. It honestly seems inevitable, though, that each Beatle will have his own star. I mean, how much bigger can you get?
I think you could ask anyone over the age of 20 to name all members of the Beatles - and they could. Some other massive bands, these days, are only recognised by their lead singer (ahem: REM, Coldplay, etc).
