Stage Too Smoky for Britney
It seems that even if you hardly say a word into your microphone during your entire arena concert performance, somehow it’s still possible for the show to go up in smoke – which is exactly what happened to our Britney Spears at her latest stop on the Circus tour.
Her show literally went up in smoke – there was a thirty minute delay three songs into the show, when Britney walked off stage without an explanation. The smoky conditions onstage were to blame, but the crowd was nonplussed, having to sit there booing for thirty minutes. An apology was issued to the Vancouver show’s ticket holders (though probably not by Britney herself, who apparently can’t say a word to the crowd about what was going on in front of them).
The explanation for the ridiculous delay eventually came from an announcer (according to the Vancouver Sun): “The building is awfully smoky. It’s become uncomfortable and unsafe for the performers, including Ms. Spears. Please extinguish all cigarettes… The show will resume as soon as the air around the stage is clear.”
The initial rumor had it that the smoke was coming from some tokers in the front rows, but a spokesman for the venue, GM Place, insists the smoke is believed to be from cigarettes. Indoor smoking is illegal there, so it’s harder to fault Britney for being such a whiny baby about a little cancerous smoke.
