Dolly Parton Hawks Broadway Show, Pink Rocking Chairs

The Broadway production that Dolly Parton has been working on for four years now is getting ready to hit the stage: 9 to 5: The Musical is set for previews to begin on April 7 at the Marquis Theatre, and a big debut for the rest of us on April 30.

I’ve never really been big on musicals (unless you count my obsession as a thirteen-year-old with Rent), or Dolly Parton (unless you count my love for “Jolene”), so this isn’t really something I can get too excited about.

The musical is based on the 1980 film which featured Parton as an actor as well as a songwriter.

The songstress is understandably nervous about the stage opening, as it’s difficult to say whether the production will be welcomed or not. In addition to this production, Parton would like to showcase her own life as a Broadway musical one day.

Besides selling herself onstage, Parton is also raking in the profits from products on sale at Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores on every interstate in the U.S. Her items include a pink limited edition rocking chair which is sure to entice…someone.

Even though being an established singing act means that you have to attempt to force people to buy a lot of crap with your face on it in order to buy a house with thirteen bathrooms, it would be nice if said established acts treated us with a little respect and offered up something we could actually use, like a pink Dolly Parton cushion to sit on during long waits at the unemployment office.
