Green Day Album Coming in May
Green Day’s new album, 21st Century Breakdown, has been officially slated for release for Friday, May 15.
It’s been quite a bit of time since the band released their previous album, American Idiot, back in 2004. Butch Vig, who is part of the band Garbage and has done prior production work with Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins, was on hand for the production of the new album.
The band is going with what worked for them the last time around; 21st Century Breakdown will be subject to a narrative structure (albeit the narrative structure of American Idiot seemed a bit disjointed to me) and divided into three acts (as previously reported).
A few tracks on the album are “21 Guns,” “East Jesus Nowhere,” “Before the Lobotomy,” and “Restless Heart Syndrome.” Personally I can’t wait to hear what kind of political gush is going to come from the center two aforementioned songs.
The first single from the album is to be “Know Your Enemy,” which will be available for download (officially, anyway) in April.
Green Day will be sure to make a good few bucks when they hit the road for an extensive arena tour in early July. It would be cool if the new album somehow blended the couch-dwelling Green Day that I used to love in sixth grade with their current political fervor, but only if they tuned the fervor way down.
