Leona Lewis plays £1 Million Birthday Gig
X factor winner Leona Lewis has been paid £1 million to perform at a 21st birthday party.
Over 200 party goers gathered for the party of Libby Caudwell, daughter of billionnaire John Cauldwell the Phones4U founder.
The seven-set gig took place in Staffordshire, was also reported to be Lewis’s longest public performance since winning the X factor talent contest in 2006. Being able to demand £1 million for a gig would put Lewis, some would say, in the same celebrity status league as Sir Paul McCartney. Lewis, who has hit the top spot in both the U.K. and U.S. album charts with her debut LP Spirit, is reportedly worth around £6 million – but likes to give most of her money away to charity organisations.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, ”Leona is one of the most sought after stars - big money sponsors literally name their fee and her management respond accordingly.”
But sources say the singer insists that much of the profit goes straight back to her favourite charities – which I find really cool.
Sources who confirmed the event had taken place were reported as saying, “Leona was not supposed to do any live shows until next year, but she made an exception. It’s a hell of a lot of money and was a great party, so it was fun being involved.”
All other details of the “private event” were kept under raps.
Leona was joined on stage by Boyzone singer Stephen Gately where the two singers dueted with the birthday girl on ‘Bleeding Love’.
A guest at the bash added: “It was a night Libby will certainly never forget. It was like a dream. She has not stopped talking about it ever since.”
Lewis is due to release her second album in the autumn before heading out on her first full tour in 2010.
