MIA to Perform Coachella
It looks like having a baby makes M.I.A. even less ready for retirement – the Sri Lankan singer has just signed up for Coachella. The new mommy will be performing at the California festival on Saturday night, as reported by the Coachella Twitter feed. M.I.A. is the official Amy Winehouse replacement (since Winehouse was forced to withdraw after she was accused of assault in the U.K. and it became unlikely that she would be able to obtain a visa to perform).
This will be the first appearance onstage for M.I.A. since giving birth, though we all saw her at the Grammys in February, performing “Paper Planes” on her due date alongside Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z.
Also among the Amy Winehouse-replacement-late-editions to the lineup are Devendra Banhart, the Orb, Chemical Brothers, Murder City Devils and Etienne de Crecy.
The festival is to be held April 17-19 in Indio, California at the Empire Polo Field. Also headlining the event are the Killers, and Paul McCartney (but get your tickets to see Yeah Yeah Yeahs, My Bloody Valentine, and Leonard Cohen).
