Coolio Charged with Battery, Possession
It turns out Coolio is not exactly an ideal father (the reality show he was on already taught us that). The former rapper (oops, I mean check out his new album!) was charged with possession of crack cocaine and battery after being arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday.
The Grammy winner, known in legal situations as Artis Leon Ivey, was taken into custody on Friday after a crack pipe and some crack was discovered in his luggage. Perhaps it’s been so long since he flew anywhere that he was unaware airport officials can just dig into your luggage?
He was charged with a single felony count for possessing crack, also known as cocaine base. Having the pipe along was a misdemeanor charge.
And the battery charge? That was because Coolio grabbed an airport screener’s arm in order to attempt to stop the search of his luggage, according to the spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney, Jane Robinson.
The rapper turned reality star could face up to three years behind state bars. He will appear in court on April 3.
