Replacements Reissues are the Nail in the Coffin

Sorry to all those middle-aged Replacement fans hoping to relive those nights of their 80s youths through a Replacements reunion – it’s just not going to happen.

Bassist Tommy Stinson says that after the new Rhino reissues coming out are released, it will be unlikely that anyone ever hears from the band ever again. He told Billboard that with these reissues there just isn’t any usable material leftover for any more albums. But what about the rumors that the band was going to set up a live album?

It’s not on the table. I don’t think we’ve got the quality takes. I think the best live record we could make is to gather up all the bootlegs, put them together and make it on our own. Those would actually make more sense.”

Oh.

The rumors were fueled by a jam session held by Stinson and frontman Paul Westeberg back in October. They were also offered six figures to play Coachella. Stinson had nothing to offer, though, besides saying he just didn’t know if a reunion would ever happen.

What Stinson is doing nowadays is far less lofty – he’s been the bassist for Guns N’ Roses since the late nineties, and he’ll be out on tour with the band whenever Axl collects himself enough to tour in support of Chinese Democracy.
