RCA Says Buh-Bye to Clay Aiken

I’m not really sure how Clay Aiken manages to stay on the radar. I barely even remember him coming out of the closet (unlike how clearly I remember the resurrection of Lance Bass when he exited his boudoir), and I only vaguely know that he has a child somehow.

But anyway: he’s in the news!

This is because he’s left RCA Records, and actually did so a couple of weeks ago, according to a Billboard source, shortly after his 2008 album On My Way Here was released. This album did not make any blips on my radar, and perhaps that has something to do with the reason the former American Idol runner-up is currently label-less.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, this album does in fact exist, and it sold 159,000 copies in the U.S. If you remember way back to his 2003 debut, Measure of a Man, you’ll recall that it sold 2.78 million copies.

Perhaps he should get with Kelly Clarkson’s people.

Aiken will make an appearance in the world again when he is a guest judge on the April 8 episode of America’s Next Top Model. Can’t wait.

Stick to what you know, Clay WAS with Kelly’s people, they didn’t promote him properly resulting in poor sales, so he fired them.

Uh? Lance Bass was resurrected? I haven’t heard a blip about him since he came out. You surely aren’t talking about that lame Z-list Dancing thing he did!

The Claymates will swarm in here to blame everything and everybody else for Clay’s poor CD sales. They will just never be able to face the fact that Aiken has HORRIBLE taste in music and people (except Claymates) just don’t like it. He’s lucky RCA kept him as long as they did. Thank your lucky stars if you weren’t subjected to that horrendous “On My Way Here” CD. OMG!! I never did like Aiken, but a friend of mine did, so I listened to it, out of respect for her. It was, without a doubt, the WORST thing I’ve ever heard. By the way, my friend later admitted that while she tried to like that CD, she just couldn’t.

Can you imagine being the poor bastards at RCA, trying to market Clay Aiken to an uncaring public?

…”people” as in “Kelly Clarkson’s people” probably refers less to RCA, and more to Max Martin, writer/collaborator of pop song conglomerates everywhere.
