At Bonnaroo 2009: Springsteen, NIN, Phish, Beastie Boys
At the 2009 Bonnaroo Festival this June 11-14 in Manchester, Tennessee, Bruce Springsteen will appear with the E Street Band. Other headliners include David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails, The Beastie Boys, Wilco, Snoop Dogg, Al Green, and Elvis Costello. Bonnaroo will be the only festival Springsteen and crew are stopping at this year (in North America, anyway). Phish are to play two separate performances on the main stage on two separate nights.
Costello is listed as a solo performer, but rumor has it that artists like Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis may join him onstage (the two have recorded together previously).
Also on the list of performers are: the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Andrew Bird, the Mars Volta, MGMT, Erykah Badu, Paul Oakenfold, and Ben Harper (with new band Relentless7). Get your tickets starting Saturday, February 7, and thanks to economic crisis & co. – get your tickets through the layaway program, for five installments of $50. This year Fuse is going to be covering the event on live television, and AT&T will present the webcasts.
Pitchfork’s golden boys Animal Collective will be there as well, whipping up some self-indulgent sounds for the crowd.
For the Beastie Boys, Bonnaroo will be their only performance this year(that is planned so far, anyway).
Last year Bonnaroo showcased Pearl Jam, Metallica, and Jack Johnson, and the festival brought in about $17 million. Seems like instead of a layaway plan to make the show “more accessible” to fans, they could scale back on the price just a bit. If you are headed out to Tennessee this summer for the festival, you may be able to actually look forward to a permanent electricity infrastructure on the property. Expect to pay for your showers, though.
