Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Announced: Jeff Beck, Metallica, Run D.M.C.
New School pioneers Run D.M.C., rock band Metallica, and guitarist Jeff Beck are among the list of inductees into the Hall of Fame this year. The list also included: vocalists Little Anthony & the Imperials, country star Wanda Jackson, and musicians D.J. Fontana, Bill Black, and Spooner Oldham. The inductees were announced Wednesday at a news conference in New York.
A few of Metallica’s musicians were on hand in New York for the announcement, and drummer Lars Ulrich was quoted as “We’ve done this our way. Twenty-seven, twenty-eight years later, we’re here.” He probably means that they never really cared about making it into the charts (though they did anyway). Besides making music, Metallica was also famous for hating Napster.
Jeff Beck was the guitar great who played with the Yardbirds, formed the Jeff Beck Group, and played with famous musicians Buddy Guy and Mick Jagger. Jeff Beck actually has already been inducted to the Hall, the first time as the guitarist of the Yardbirds. He is being honored a second time for his solo career.
Run D.M.C. has long been credited with bringing a new sound to hip-hop, and introducing the genre to a mainstream audience. The trio (that’s Run, D.M.C., and Jam Master Jay) will be the second hip-hop act to be enrolled into the rock hall, after Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were inducted last year. They will be inducted on April 4.
I am blown away. Metallica absolutely, Jeff Beck definately, but Run-DMC? Those were the choices???? Two guys that talked fast over other people’s music while the third scratched the records up and went through a ton of needles. When is it ever going to be time for three others? You know, Lifeson, Peart, and Lee? Is this some kind of quota fill? You get to have three rock acts, but you have to throw in a hip-hop and country act too? What is this? Run-DMC is the hall before RUSH? Idiots.
