New U2 Album Due in March

U2’s 12th studio album, No Line on the Horizon, is set to be released March 2. The album was supposed to have been released this year, but was delayed. No Line on the Horizon follows the nine times platinum 2004 album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

The rock veterans/superstars worked with producers Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite on the new album. Though the band worked with Rick Rubin during some studio sessions, that material reportedly didn’t make it onto the album. Studio sessions for the album began last year in Fez, Morocco, continued into 2008 in the band’s Dublin studios, went on to New York, and finished in London.

U2 did not stop their sessions at fifty songs, feeling that they needed a few more. No singles have been announced, though the band filmed a video with director Alex Courtes in London during November. (Courtes has worked with Daft Punk and White Stripes, and worked on the U2 videos for “Vertigo” and “City of Blinding Lights.”)

The track listing is yet unknown, but Billboard reported that the album is to have a title track, and feature songs called “Moment of Surrender” and “Unknown Caller.”

U2 is also planning a tour for 2009.
