Simon Cowell Votes for Britney
At the top of Cowell’s list of hoped-for celebrity appearances on the upcoming season of American Idol isn’t the ever-elusive Paul McCartney (who makes the producers’ list every year, but has yet to appear) – it’s Britney Spears. And the reason he wants her so bad? Hint: it’s not because of her high-ranging vocal talents or even her there-today-gone-tomorrow dancing skills.
Cowell tells MTV News: “The buzz we had on our show [the X Factor] when she came on was extraordinary. And even with all the stuff that’s gone on with her the past two years, there was more excitement and interest in her than I’ve seen in anyone in years. She would be very, very welcome.”
Cowell is interested in having her on American Idol as one of the mentors for the upcoming talents on the show, but after the X Factor he is probably hip to her ways (while on the show her list of demands included that none of the contestants be anywhere near her backstage, and that none be allowed to even watch her perform on the sidelines) and says he’ll settle for just a performance.
After Britney showed up at the X Factor wearing a fake mic and hardly even danced onstage, I’m going to have to cast my vote for Cowell’s third choice: Beyoncé – who was superb on the X Factor.
