Lil Wayne’s Attorneys Stall For Time
Rapper Lil Wayne and his attorneys are attempting to get more time to mull over documents (or just figure out what their next move is) in a lawsuit accusing Wayne of copyright infringement.
The federal suit was filed back in May, and accuses Wayne of taking a sample of “Once” by Karma Ann Swanepoel and using it in his song “I Feel Like Dying.” The South African born singer filed the suit in Louisiana, accusing Wayne of essentially stealing her song.
According to the suit, Wayne’s label – Cash Money Records – attempted to negotiate a license for the song’s use, but failed and millions of people downloaded the song anyway. Apparently Swanepoel did not take well to such presumptuous behavior. It is unknown how much money Swanepoel is demanding in damages.
Yesterday Lil Wayne’s lawyers filed a motion asking a New Orleans judge for a deadline extension for giving back the documents and other material to lawyers for Urband & Lazar Music Publishing.
Since nothing has been known to deter Wayne’s prolificacy in the studio, fans can still expect about twelve new albums next year.
