Eoghan Quigg was the first of the remaining 3 contestants to leave the competition, which left JLS and Alexandra Burke to sing their versions of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah – which is to be released as their first single.

The tension on stage as Dermot O’Leary called out the last two – was incredible. The difference between Eoghan and JLS was negligible – either could have been in the last two.

JLS‘s version of Hallelujah left me drifting back to Jeff Buckley’s version and just comparing the two. Buckley was always going to win in this comparison.

Alexandra Burke’s version left me, after about 20 seconds of the song, says – She has won – that’s it – its all hers. After she finished singing the judges couldn’t have been anymore complimentary with Simon Cowell beaming “seriously incredible – you’ve got to win”.

Alexandra will undoubtedly go on to battle Leona Lewis and Britney Spears for the top spot in the charts over Christmas. Her version of Hallelujah was sublime.

When the winner was announced Miss Burke burst into tears and nearly collapsed. She was then thrust in front of the camera with a microphone shoved in her hand and made to perform her single. She had to stop intermittently to catch her breath and control the tears before recovering to finish the song strongly.

Alex is the deserved winner and her performance with Beyonce, singing Listen, was really a show winner – clearly indicating to the public that she can hold her own with the worlds greatest. Her other songs on the night included Silent Night and Billy Preston’s You Are So Beautiful.

Beyonce also made her second appearance on the show to sing her latest single If I Were A Boy.
