DMX Cuffed Again in Miami
DMX, of former nineties glory, was arrested again in South Florida when he didn’t show up for a scheduled court appearance this past Friday. The 37-year-old rapper, better known to his mother and judges alike as Earl Simmons, was arrested this past Tuesday, December 9. DMX’s attorney attests that the rapper has been sporadically in attendance at rehab facilities during the past few weeks.
Miami-Dade County jail is holding Simmons/DMX, who has pleaded not guilty to previous charges made against him in Arizona. When Florida authorities return him to Phoenix, his bond will be set at $120,000.
DMX was previously arrested in Phoenix during May of this year, on charges of drug possession and animal cruelty. Two searches of his Cave Creek residence at that time found drugs, weapons, dog carcasses and some live pit bulls (albeit in bad shape).
When officers first arrived at his home at 3 a.m. the rapper apparently barricaded himself inside his bedroom, though he eventually surrendered without further incident. DMX was eventually charged on seven counts of animal cruelty in Arizona.
Interestingly, the rapper was indicted in 2002 for animal cruelty in New Jersey, to which he pleaded guilty. Part of his punishment was to make a public service announcement against animal cruelty.
