Velvet Revolver Settle Dirty Little Thing Suit

‘Dirty Little Thing’, a hit single from Velvet Revolver’s ‘Contraband’ album, is an awesome track. It’s just a pity that the band didn’t actually write the music themselves.

They have just settled a suit with Tony Newton, bassist for UK Rock band ‘Voodoo Six’.

While in his previous band, ‘Dirty Deeds’, Tony wrote the music for a track called ‘Cyber Babe’. It is this track that Newton was shocked to discover had been ripped off by Velvet Revolver.

“A couple of years back, a mate of mine in L.A. called me to say he’d heard what he thought was my song on the radio, and that he had been a bit shocked when he realized it was Velvet Revolver. When I checked it out myself, I genuinely couldn’t believe it, because it wasn’t as if it was close – it was basically the same riff.”

Tony got onto his publishers and they took over the investigation and subsequent settlement suit.

He will now receive 20 percent of the royalties from Velvet Revolver’s ‘Contraband’ album as well as the single itself, dating back to the albums release in 2004. The Voodoo Six rocker will also receive all future royalties from the single – whether it be played live, used commercially or any digital sales etc.

No monetary figure has been released to indicate the size of the settlement but the ‘Contraband’ album sold over 4 million times worldwide – so this will have been quite the payday for the UK lad.
