Radiohead Splash Out $40,000 On Contest Prize Winners

A band who hasn’t been affected by the credit crunch, like some (REM), Radiohead are forking out $40,000 of their own cash to competition prize winners.

On March 17, 2008 Radiohead and aniBoom launched the “In Rainbows Animated Music Contest”.

The competition called for animated storyboards/video clips no more than 30 seconds long to be submitted.

Originally the contest was only supposed to have one winner who would receive $10,000, but alas, Radiohead were so impressed by three other video efforts they decided to announce four winners and give each of them $10,000 in prize money and the chance to make their animation into a full length video.

Radiohead placed a notice on their website for the reasoning behind four winners, stating they simply could not choose due to the “high caliber and creative visions of the submissions.”

The new animated videos may be used in the promotion of Radiohead’s latest album “In Rainbows”.

Winners from the competition include:

  • Clement Picon’s chiaroscuro landscape for “Reckoner,”
  • Kota Totori’s “15 Step,”
  • Tobias Stretch’s stop-motion mastery for “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”
  • Wolfgang Jaiser and Claus Winter’s “Videotape.”
