Glastonbury Festival: Getting Desperate?
As over 100,000 festival punters are still recovering from this years glastonbury festival, organisers are already setting plans in motion for tickets to go on sale even earlier next year.
In an attempt to revive the festival spirit – Michael Eavis- the man behind the event, plans to put tickets on sale in October of this year in the hope of increasing ticket sales for Glastonbury 2009.
Festival goers will be able to reserve a ticket for just £50 deposit. This latest attempt to boost ticket sales for next year comes about due to the slow demand for this years Glastonbury tickets.
The festival did sell out – eventually – but reports claim this is only due to the late announcement that Jay-Z would be the headliner at the gig.
Event organisers have played down slow ticket sales blaming the recent hike in fuel prices for the surge in ticket prices. Tickets to the festival cost £160 (including administration fee) this year. Glastonbury fans will be disappointed to hear that ticket prices will be increased next year.
Due to the financial strain being placed upon the British public with an impending recession, this move may be seen in some quarters as a way to help music fans save up for the event. The ‘Advanced Booking Scheme’ may also be viewed by others as a way to secure revenue to fund the next event.
Lets hope the credit crunch doesnt dampen the spirits of festival goers too much or festival season 2009 could be a wash-out…
