Metallica To Review Music Business Model

Metallica live in London, 2003. Left to right: Robert Trujillo, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield.Music-news.com has released a story that indicates that Metallica are about to release their next album for free.

This is wholly inaccurate and radical reporting.

Metallica are currently signed to a deal with one album remaining and no record label on the planet will allow a band that big to walk away early.

Lars Ulrich has reportedly told Rolling Stone magazine that the band are reviewing new business models and that Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails are bands that they are monitoring closely.

Of course – every established band in existence these days is looking at what Radiohead have done. They used the roller-coaster of public opinion to massive affect and have seemingly succeeded. Who wouldn’t want to replicate that? Its the pinnacle of what Rock stands for – Stick it to the man.

Of-course you shouldn’t get excited just yet about a free Metallica album. They must release their last album to complete their contract first – then they are free to skip with the hippies.
