Pete Doherty To Line Up Solo…
The troubled front-man of Indie Rock band Babyshambles has announced that he is to release a solo album later this year.
According to NME, the singer began recording the album in London, early 2007, with producer Jake Fior - fitting in the sessions around Babyshambles commitments. He notes “All the groundwork for the album is done and I’ve given Jake all my new songs – I’d say it was just over half recorded so far.”.
Its a dramatic step for Doherty and it will be interesting to see how this develops. The comfort of a band around him would have been good for the man and helped to focus his talents on creating good music for his legion of followers. Stepping out on his own with the vulnerabilities of touring without that support may take its toll and finally land the guy in prison as a result of yet more drug charges. Maybe Kate will make a few more on-stage appearances to, ahem, help him along.
In regards to the album though - it should be nothing less than what we expect from the ex-libertine lead : Fast, Rough and Sweaty.

Peter’s always done solo gigs in addition to his gigs with his bands, and has released several solo acoustic sessions to fans via the Internet. He’s already said he’s not leaving Babyshambles, and I doubt he’d do a full solo tour. Probably more of the usual intimate one-off gigs in between Shambles dates.
As far as the sound goes, I think you’d be surprised by what Peter’s solo work sounds like. I’d recommend finding the Freewhelin’ Pete Doherty or Acousticalullaby sessions to get a better idea.
